A&J Music Association VOICE LESSONS (Q&A) (SINGING LESSONS)
“It's About MORE Than Music....It's About YOU.”
QUESTION: When taking voice lessons (singing lessons), what should I look out for?
ANSWER: There are so many things to look out for when taking voice lessons (singing lessons) that it's difficult to answer in just one Q&A. For the sake of brevity, for now, we'll just look at what many voice teachers would consider the most important aspect of voice training...
Perhaps the most important thing to address (overall) when taking singing lessons (voice lesssons) is proper use of the diaphragm. Without knowing how to properly generate sound and tone from your diaphragm, you can seriously hurt your throat (vocal chords, muscle strain, etc.). Prolonged singing without proper of use of the diaphragm can result in a PERMANENTLY "scratchy" voice (or simply a "messed up" voice).
Make sure that your voice teacher addresses proper use of your diaphragm during your voice lessons (singing lessons). Another way to approach this during your voice classes is to simply ask your voice instructor to help you make sure you do NOT sing from your throat, because you don't want to hurt your voice.
Your voice teacher should also have a series of exercises (usually "breathing" exercises) for you to do.
